$2 Million Coming To Montclair To Repair Water Infrastructure

Patch News

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair will receive more than $2 million to make “significant” updates to the water and sewer system in the township, Rep. Mikie Sherill (D-NJ-11) announced.

Sherill had supported funding for projects in her district as part of the “Minibus” package passed last week.

The township will get $2,056,000 “to completely rehabilitate and create resiliency in Montclair, which has unacceptably high levels of PFOS and Perchlorates,” according to Sherill’s office.

Sherill championed projects around the district.

“I was proud to vote for this legislative package that develops a stronger worker force, helps fight inflation, and lowers the cost of living for New Jerseyans. This package also makes strong investments to build safer communities, support our veterans, combat climate change, protect our democracy, and fund the Gateway Tunnel Project to bring reliable, affordable rail to more New Jerseyans,” she said.

Peter Yacobellis, township councilor-at-large, expressed his gratitude in an email to Patch.

“We continue to make significant investments and updates to our water and sewer infrastructure across Montclair, to the tune of millions and millions of dollars,” he said. “This $2M appropriation, thanks to the work of our Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, represents a direct savings to Montclair households. To put it in perspective, this is approximately 50% of the total funds we received from the American Rescue Plan.”

“Given how challenging our fiscal environment has been and the relentless list of infrastructure projects that we are or need to focus on, this is a big win for us,” Yacobellis continued. “I want to thank the Congresswoman for leading the charge here and to our entire Congressional delegation for the support.”
