I still remember the first time I noticed a T-bar necklace in the mid-2000s. Back then, it felt like every fashionable girl was wearing one with her white Tammy Girl vest top and low-rise, bejewelled jeans. I was enamoured, coveting them almost as much as the classic heart pendant, which Kate Middleton was spotted wearing back in February. Fashion’s obsession with nostalgia means the Y2K pieces we once wore on repeat (and wore on our lips) are finding their way back into our wardrobes, and honestly, I couldn’t be happier about this one.
Of course, millennials can’t claim to have discovered the T-bar. The necklaces originated in the Victorian era as part of the Albert watch chain, used to secure pocket watches to waistcoats. Over time, though, the T-bar has evolved from a masculine, utilitarian accessory into a unisex jewellery staple whose appeal is clear decade after decade.

And that brings us to today. Thanks to Anne Hathaway’s return as Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada 2, the iconic jewellery silhouette is firmly back in the spotlight – and fashion fans are wasting no time tracking it down. Searches for terms including ‘Anne Hathaway necklace Devil Wears Prada 2‘, ‘t-bar necklace’ and ‘Devil Wears Prada 2 Andy necklace’ have all surged in recent weeks as viewers attempt to recreate Andy Sachs’s polished on-screen styling. Minimal yet statement-making, it sits somewhere between classic and contemporary, which is exactly why it works so well today, especially layered with contrasting materials, such as pearls.
It seems that demand has mirrored the online buzz, solidifying the style’s popularity for summer 2026. At PRYA, orders for T-bar styles reportedly rose 153%, with the biggest spike recorded on May 2 following the film’s release imagery.
‘A T-bar necklace is a strong investment piece because it layers effortlessly and works across different outfits and aesthetics,’ says Arwa Hassan, co-founder and style director at PRYA. ‘We expect to see the silhouette everywhere this summer, particularly styled alongside pearls in layered combinations inspired by Andy Sachs’ on-screen jewellery wardrobe.’

‘The real influence of The Devil Wears Prada 2 is not just one necklace; it is the return of considered jewellery styling,’ Hassan adds. ‘Andy Sachs layering a T-bar with pearls feels polished but personal, which is exactly how people want their jewellery now. It looks curated rather than overstyled. The T-bar works particularly well because it adds structure to layered looks. It has a sculptural quality that balances softer pieces like pearls, which is why the combination feels so elevated on screen and translates so easily into everyday styling.’
It isn’t just Andy Sachs who loves the revival either. Taylor Swift has also embraced the silhouette in recent years, wearing a chunky T-bar chain from Tilly Sveaas that sparked plenty of attention among fans and fashion editors alike.
The appeal lies in its versatility. A chunky gold chain instantly elevates a plain white T-shirt and blazer, while finer styles work beautifully layered over crisp shirts, slip dresses or knitwear. Whether worn alone as a statement or stacked with pearls and delicate chains, it brings an effortless sophistication to almost any outfit.
