Ressence, with its oil-flooded dial, moving subdials and regulator-style layout has consistently challenged perceptions about how a watch should look and function. Fresh from a dizzying, dizzying vortex-like collaboration with German sculptor-painter Daniel Engelberg, the brand now adopts a decidedly more chic look with the new Type 1.
Crafted with warm rose gold plating, the brand hopes to woo new fans at Dubai Watch Week with this 70-piece limited edition, where the Type 1, first launched in 2014, is often seen as more approachable in its design than other models – not too wacky, but still a talking point.
Replacing traditional watch hands with rotating discs, the Type 1 is about making complexity feel intuitive. Here, it’s luminescent, convex sunray-finished dial features those three inclined, flush discs displaying hours, seconds, and day of the week, while engraved indications are filled with Grade A Super-LumiNova for enhanced legibility.
At its heart lies Ressence’s patented ROCS 1.3 (Ressence Orbital Convex System) module, driven by a customised ETA 2892 base calibre which delivers the bi-dimensional time display.
The cool silver tones of the sandblasted titanium case ring and bezel are elegantly contrasted by the copper undertones of the rose gold dial, but mirrored in the very chic light grey suede strap. For US-based customers, there’s an exclusive dark chocolate brown leather version that offers a classic alternative.
Measuring 42.7mm in diameter and just 11mm thick, Ressence is really leaning into the dress watch category with this new number – perfect for slipping under the cuff at the industry soirees taking place this week.
