“American Fiction” director Cord Jefferson, composer Laura Karpman and director John Hoffman (“The Barber of Little Rock”) were among the Oscar-nominated attendees at Gold House‘s inaugural Oscars One House Toast.
In partnership with GLAAD, the NAACP Hollywood Bureau, La Cena, IllumiNative, Harness, Pillars Fund, The Blackhouse Foundation, The Female Quotient, and The Latinx House, Gold House honored the 2024 multicultural nominees and achievements across filmmaking at the celebration on Thursday night at Harriet’s Rooftop in West Hollywood.
Gold House co-founder and CEO Bing Chen kicked off the celebration with opening remarks. He said: “One of the reasons all of you are here is you are handpicked because you’re not just artistically leading, but you have put mission and purpose to your artistry. You realize that you’re not another minority, but instead, collectively, we are part of the global majority. This global majority numerically is more than 90% of the world and reflects the people in this room.”
Gold House unites and empowers creators, companies, and communities to redefine canon by dismantling pernicious stereotypes and projecting new, affirming portrayals. Tiffany Chao, Head of Entertainment at the company said, “Over the years we have seen the inclusion of new voices in membership organizations across the industry. However, we still have much work to do to ensure the diversity of the creative collective is represented. We have a unique opportunity to redefine excellence as we consider the cultural significance of art from around the world.”
“Shortcomings” co-stars Sherry Cola and Ally Maki, “Expats” actors Ji-Young Yoo and Sarayu Blue, “Fancy Dance” producer Bird Runningwater were among the 200 guests who were invited to attend the event.
The One House Toast is a continuation of Gold House’s mission to reshape Asian Pacific and multicultural representation in front of and behind the camera.
In the past year, Gold House has provided industry-defining research, cultural consultation, investments, and marketing on over 100 films and TV shows, including the most awarded film of all time “Everything Everywhere All at Once” as the first organization to support the groundbreaking film, and 2024 Academy Award nominees “Past Lives,” “Elemental,” and “Nimona.”
