Johnson County residents wishing to appeal the 2026 assessed values of their real estate or personal property will have the opportunity to do so when the Board of Equalization convenes next month.

Johnson County Assessor George Taylor announced that the board will convene at 9 a.m. Monday, July 20 at the Johnson County Commission Office in Warrensburg. The Board tentatively plans to conclude hearings by 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 23.

According to the Assessor, impact notices will be mailed on June 12, to owners of real property that increased in assessed value by $500 or more.

Property owners who believe their property has been incorrectly valued or classified are strongly encouraged to first contact the Johnson County Assessor’s Office at (660) 747-9822 to request an informal review prior to pursuing a formal appeal. If an informal review is not chosen or does not resolve the concern, property owners may file an appeal with the Board of Equalization. Appeal forms are available at www.jococourthouse.com or through the County Clerk’s Office at (660) 747-6161. The appeal deadline is Monday, July 13.

Completed appeal forms and all supporting evidence must be delivered to the County Clerk’s Office by email at clerk@jocomo.gov or to 301 West Market Street, Suite 106 in Warrensburg by the deadline.

Individuals appearing before the board should be prepared to present evidence supporting what they believe to be the correct market value of their property. If a property owner remains dissatisfied following the board’s decision, they may appeal further to the State Tax Commission and, if necessary, to the Circuit Court.
