Ukrainian court seizes woman’s property for supporting Russia

A court in the western Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia sentenced a local woman to four years in prison and seized her apartment after finding her guilty in absentia of supporting Russia and calling for separatism, Ukrainian news website TSN reported on Saturday.

This is the first case of the Ukrainian state seizing property from someone for supporting Russia’s invasion of the country.

According to investigators, Alla Stadnytska, 80, had called on Russian President Vladimir Putin “to save Banderite Ukraine” and supported his invasion of the country in posts on social network Odnoklassniki, as well as liking anti-Ukrainian comments.

Before retiring, Stadnytska worked for many years as a physics teacher at a local school, but moved to Russia, where she had family, before Russia launched its full-scale invasion of its neighbour.

Vinnytsia residents suggested the confiscated apartment, Stadnytska’s sole asset in Ukraine, be “given to a war veteran,” TSN added.
