McDermott fortifies Frankfurt investment team with latest hire

The new joiner is the latest in a string of recent appointments across the firm’s European transactions and private capital platform.

Global law firm McDermott Will & Schulte has welcomed Olena Tokman to its investment funds practice in Frankfurt. She is set to join the firm as partner on 1 August.

Her move ends a seven-and-a-half-year tenure with Linklaters. She has also acted as head of legal and compliance at German capital management company Patrizia SE in addition to stints spent with Hogan Lovells and Shearman & Sterling (now A&O Shearman).

Tokman’s practice encompasses investment and corporate law, and M&A transactions, in particular infrastructure, private debt, private equity and real estate. Her client base comprises asset managers, domestic and international investors and fund sponsors.

She focuses on providing legal counsel relating to investments in investment funds and other regulated investment products as well as structuring and establishing both regulated and non-regulated real estate funds and fund of funds, and handling associated regulatory law issues.

Managing partner in Germany Matthias Kampshoff said of the appointment: “Since our merger with Schulte Roth & Zabel last year, we have one of the largest and most respected investment management practices in the world. Further expansion of our well-established German investment management practice is therefore at the top of McDermott’s strategic agenda.”

Frankfurt office managing partner Frank Müller added: “Our goal is to provide our clients with comprehensive one-stop advice on setting up and investing in funds on a national and international level. With Olena, we are gaining an outstanding expert in investment law. We are excited to have her on board as we continue to grow our team.”

McDermott’s transactions practice global head Harris Siskind commented: “Olena’s arrival further strengthens our ability to deliver sophisticated, cross-border advice to clients across our global platform. Her experience deepens our private capital capabilities in Europe and reinforces our commitment to strategic growth in key markets.”
