Vacheron Constantin isn’t done expanding its range of smaller Overseas watches, and honestly, we’re here for it. Today, the Maison is back with two new 34.5mm Self-Winding references that bring the colour palette we once saw introduced to the Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin last year: a rich red sunburst dial model in steel and a pink gold model that carries a more monochromatic appeal.

Despite being smaller, both watches keep everything that makes the Overseas the Overseas — the signature Maltese Cross bezel, the cross-inspired bracelet links, the screwed-down crown — while leaning into a size and finish clearly aimed at smaller wrists and a more expressive, contemporary look. However, in the scale-down, the depth rating is stated at 50 metres rather than the 150 metres boasted by the larger Self-Winding models – but 50 metres is at least suitable for surface swimming.

The dials are the real novelty here: a sunburst satin-finished base paired with a velvet-textured outer minutes track gives real depth under light, and the hour markers lean into the monochromatic theme on the gold version (pink gold markers and hands) while the steel model goes for contrast with white gold markers against that red lacquer. Blue Super-LumiNova on both keeps a subtle nod to Overseas tradition even amid the colour swap.

As expected, each watch ships with three straps that feature Vacheron Constantin’s tool-free interchangeable system: a Maltese Cross-inspired bracelet, a textured rubber strap, and an alligator leather strap. The gold model gets white rubber and white alligator alongside its pink gold bracelet, while the steel version pairs a deep red rubber and red alligator (with tone-on-tone stitching, a nice detail) with its steel bracelet. It’s a genuinely versatile package. Sport one look for a hike, swap to leather for dinner, no tools required.

Under the hood is the calibre 1088/1, Vacheron’s manufacture automatic that we’ve already seen in the other 34.5mm central-seconds Overseas models. It’s a modest mover on paper — 40 hours of power reserve, no Geneva Hallmark — but it does bring a full balance bridge for shock resistance, a welcome feature in a watch of this size.

Naturally, the larger 41mm still has more bells and whistles to satiate even the most nitpicky of watch nerds. However, the Overseas Self-Winding 34.5mm does do a great job of opening up the design to smaller, more delicate wrists without having too many of the typical downgrades most brands are culpable of.
