Earlier this year Ressence paid tribute to the 75th anniversary of the Seddiqi retailer with a cool sand-textured watch. Now though, for Dubai Watch Week, they ask the question what would a desert-coloured watch look like in precious metals? The result is their first rose gold watch, the aptly-named Type 1 Round Rose Gold.
If you’re unfamiliar with Ressence then the display might be a bit of an enigma. It’s composed of four rotating discs, with three subdials set into a larger rotating display. It’s all part of the brand’s “Ressence Orbital Convex System” aka ROCS concept where the entire face of the watch moves and changes each second, rather than more traditional static displays. The large disc represents the minutes while two of the larger of the subdial is the hour display, joined by small seconds. The last subdial is then the days of the week with the weekend highlighted.

For the Type 1 Round Rose Gold, the display is made from rose gold plating for the first time. It adds a rich copper tone with sunray brushing that looks great. Another term that could be used to describe the display is salmon, as it features 42.7mm titanium case in silver-grey that looks like the skin of the fish while the dial is the flesh. That’s actually where the term originates from though it is now often used to describe any copper tone dial.
Powering the watch is the ETA 2892 automatic movement with the patented ROCS 1.3 module. When you look at the orbital puzzle of the display it’s always surprising to learn that it’s driven by the minute axle of a fairly ubiquitous movement. It’s also wound via the caseback in order the maintain the crownless design.

As for price it’s CHF 18,150 (approx. £17,450) – Ressence watches tend to be fairly pricy so adding gold plating only exacerbates the issue. It’s very much a brand for well-established collectors rather than entry-level enthusiasts. It’s also a limited edition of 70 pieces.
