Bobby, a young boy from St Albans, won Harriet Kelsall Bespoke Jewellery’s “Kindness in My World” children’s design competition, which ran in the company’s four studios and shops.
The competition invited children to illustrate someone special in their lives, focusing on kindness and meaningful relationships.
Rebecca Howarth, managing director at Harriet Kelsall Bespoke Jewellery, said: “We really wanted to show children that creativity is just as valuable as academics.
“Our aim was to encourage them to nurture their talents and discover the many creative career paths available to them.
“Through this project, the winners have experienced what it takes to transform an idea into a finished piece of jewellery.”
Bobby’s winning design, created at the St Albans studio, was a heartfelt illustration inspired by his nightly reading routine with his dad.
He described the bedtime stories as especially meaningful, knowing his dad reads with him even when tired after a long day.
As part of his prize, Bobby visited the St Albans studio for a one-to-one session with senior jewellery designer Kirsty.
Together, they refined his drawing into a design that could be hand-engraved onto a sterling silver pendant.
Already interested in gemstones and precious metals, Bobby enjoyed exploring the creative process.
He chose to keep the pendant for himself and wore it immediately upon receiving it.
Alongside the jewellery, Bobby was given a commemorative photobook documenting the design journey and a jeweller’s guide to gemstones, which he plans to read with his dad during their bedtime story sessions.
Rebecca Howarth said: “Jewellery has always been about meaning, memory and connection.
“Seeing the children’s ideas transformed into something they can treasure forever has been incredibly special.
“Every design reminded us that the most meaningful jewellery often begins with a simple idea and a lot of heart.”
Harriet Kelsall Bespoke Jewellery hopes to inspire more young people to explore creative careers through the success of the competition, while also highlighting jewellery’s ability to capture memories and tell lasting stories.
