It has been revealed that Ozark actor and three-time Emmy winner Julia Garner will play a version of Silver Surfer in The Fantastic Four, the upcoming film that will bring the titular group into the MCU. However, an acclaimed actor seemed to suggest he was blindsided by the news.
Per Screen Rant, The Changeling star LaKeith Stanfield took to Instagram after the news was reported to share his reaction. Including a screenshot of the report, Stanfield — who was nominated for an Academy Award for Judas and the Black Messiah — wrote in the caption, “Thought it was going to be me but ig.” Stanfield has since deleted the post, and it’s unclear if he had actually auditioned or was a major contender for the role. The actor could have been referring to fans previously campaigning for him to play the role. He hasn’t yet offered any further clarification as of this time.
The Fantastic Four’s Johnny Storm Was Almost Played by Rising Star Nicholas Galitzine
Nicholas Galitzine confirmed he was in talks to appear in the MCU’s upcoming The Fantastic Four.
Julia Garner will play Shalla-Bal, a character who was originally introduced as the love interest of Norrin Radd’s Silver Surfer. The character has also been depicted as a Silver Surfer alongside Norrin in Marvel’s multiverse. As of now, it’s not clear if the Norrin character will be appearing in The Fantastic Four. There have been rumors that Galactus will be featured as the movie’s primary villain, though this hasn’t been officially confirmed, and no actors have yet been cast for the rumored role.
LaKeith Stanfield has earned great acclaim in his career, but he has yet to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Recently, he starred in the Apple TV+ series The Changeling, as well as the films Haunted Mansion and The Book of Clarence. The actor previously appeared in films like Straight Outta Compton, Get Out, Death Note, Uncut Gems, and Knives Out. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Judas and the Black Messiah, which went to his co-star Daniel Kaluuya.
