A influencer has been slammed after suggestion a ‘small detail’ on a property can justify tenants being charged an extra £100 per month.
Content creator @hewantswealth, who offers ‘inspirational and financial advice’ online to his 10K following, shared his proposal X on March 28, much to the horror of fellow renters.
The influencer, from London, ignited a firestorm of criticism after justifying paying an extra £100 per month in rent for the addition of USB socket ports to ordinary plug points.
Uploading a photograph of an ‘ordinary’ white plug outlet with two plug points, alongside a picture of a modified chrome outlet with the addition of two USB inserts, he explained why the latter warranted a significant increase in rent.
He wrote in his post: ‘How it started and how it’s going. These are the small details tenants will appreciate when looking for a property to rent and will happily pay the extra £75-£100pm for.’
However, many users slammed the influencer’s suggestion and said the glitzy plug socket was an ‘unnecessary’ feature.
Others said the USB port was a basic amenity, with some deriding the content creator’s proposal as outlandish and impractical.
One person wrote: ‘Looool STOP! No prospective tenant is paying an extra £100/month because of USB sockets, come on now…’
Another said, ‘I’d rather pay £100 less a month in rent and use an extension lead, than USB sockets,’ while a third wrote, ‘As a tenant I would never pay that.’
Another unconvinced person commented: ‘I would not pay £75-100 more for some USB chargers in the wall and neither would literally anyone I’ve ever met. Hope that helps.’
A final baffled individual wrote: ‘Unless it’s closer to a table/sofa/desk, what’s the point of the USB?’
Meanwhile, a rental property in Australia has caused mirth among prospective renters after they noticed it featured a shower positioned in the kitchen of the single-room apartment.
The property listing for the ‘garden studio’ apartment at Enmore, in Sydney’s inner west, advertises it as a ‘private’ and ‘self contained’ room at the back of the property.
The $260-per-week apartment also features air conditioning, an external toilet and a ‘neat and basic kitchen’.
Aussie renters on Reddit took particular issue with the fact the shower – located next to a kitchen sink, fridge and microwave – faces directly into the middle of the room.
The property was first posted to social media by one concerned Aussie with the caption: ‘Surely this can’t be allowed, right?’
