International gold and silver prices both advanced on Thursday.
On the New York Mercantile Exchange, gold futures for December delivery rose 3.08 percent to settle at 4,160.60 U.S. dollars per ounce, while silver futures for September delivery gained 1.60 percent to close at 59.017 dollars per ounce.
Gold, silver futures rise on Thursday
The so-called Board of Peace on Thursday reached an agreement for the “complete disarmament” of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed on social media.
This agreement is a critical step towards Gaza finally being governed by a new Palestinian government that will work closely with the Board of Peace to help the Palestinian people, Trump wrote on Truth Social.
At the same time, Israel will have the security it deserves, with Gaza no longer used as a base for terror attacks, Trump added.
The agreement will be carried out in structured phases, according to Trump, who noted that as disarmament is completed, Israeli forces will withdraw, and the International Stabilization Force will work with a new Palestinian police force to take responsibility for Gaza’s security.
He said Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye helped broker the agreement as mediators.
Saudi-owned Al Arabiya TV, citing a Hamas official, reported Friday that an agreement between Hamas and Israel has been reached, and Hamas will soon issue an official statement. Egypt’s state TV also reported early Friday that Hamas and Palestinian factions have agreed to a plan for implementing the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, including a gradual process for inventorying and storing their weapons.
