Police close in on ‘gang behind biggest gold heist in Canadian history’


Nine suspects have been identified a year after one of the biggest gold heists in history at a Canadian airport.

About C$22.5 million (£13.1 million, or US$16.3 million) of gold bars and cash was taken from Toronto Pearson international on April 17 last year.

Canadian and US authorities announced called a press conference about the case on Wednesday. Mike Mavity, the lead detective on the investigation dubbed “24Karat”, addressed reporters in front of the same truck that transported 6,600 gold bars and several million dollars’ worth of cash in various foreign currencies out of the airport one year beforehand.
