Hopkinsville To Keep Same Property Tax Rate

Property tax bills for Hopkinsville residents will likely not include a tax increase. Hopkinsville City Council voted Tuesday night to approve the first reading setting the 2026-2027 property tax rate at 20.2 cents per 100 dollars of assessed value, the same rate as last year.

Chief Financial Officer Melissa Clayton told Councilmembers that with the decrease in property assessment values, the rate will bring in less revenue for the city, and they will need to use prior-year reserves to meet the budget.

The personal property rate will be set at 23.9 cents per 100 dollars assessed value, and the motor vehicle and watercraft rate will be 25.1 cents per 100 dollars assessed value. The city also imposes a 1.5 cents per 100 dollars fair cash value on all unmanufactured tobacco handled or processed in the city.

A second vote on the 2026-2027 tax rates will be held at the September 15th City Council meeting.
