Gemini secures a full MPI license from Singapore’s MAS, strengthening its regulatory foothold in Asia.
-
This comes as the exchange is expanding beyond crypto, with stock trading, tokenized equities and prediction markets becoming key growth areas.

The license authorizes Gemini’s Singapore entity to provide regulated digital payment token services.
The leading crypto exchange Gemini has announced a major regulatory feat. It has secured a full Major Payment Institution (MPI) license from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), marking a major regulatory milestone for the company’s operations in the Asia-Pacific region.
Gemini Digital Payments Singapore Pte. Ltd. (GDPSPL) has received the license after previously securing in-principle approval from MAS in October 2024. The exchange confirmed the development on September 8, 2026.
The development gives Gemini a stronger regulatory footing in one of Asia’s key financial and digital-asset markets.
What Gemini’s MPI License Covers
The approval is significant because an MPI license is not simply a registration for a crypto company. Under Singapore’s Payment Services Act, Major Payment Institutions are subject to more comprehensive regulatory requirements because of the scale and potential risks associated with their operations.
MAS says MPIs can provide regulated payment services regardless of transaction volume or the amount of e-money held. It also requires them to meet safeguards such as requirements for protecting customer money.
For Gemini, the most relevant authorization it gets with MPI is its Digital Payment Token (DPT) service.
DPT services cover regulated activities involving digital payment tokens, the regulatory category Singapore uses for crypto assets. MAS currently lists 37 Major Payment Institutions providing DPT services.
This includes major crypto and digital-asset firms such as Coinbase Singapore, Circle Internet Singapore, BitGo Singapore and Blockchain.com Singapore.
This puts Gemini into an established group of regulated digital-asset businesses operating under Singapore’s payment-services framework.
Gemini currently offers spot trading, digital-asset custody and over-the-counter (OTC) services to customers in Singapore. The company said both retail and institutional clients remain central to its Singapore strategy.
“Securing the MPI license from MAS validates our commitment and investment into Singapore,” Gemini President and Co-Founder Cameron Winklevoss said in the company’s press release.
This comes as the country is becoming key centre for crypto companies in APAC with recently Bitgo opening its office in Singapore.
