Pay property tax before May 31 or face penalty: Chandigarh commissioner to property owners | Chandigarh News


The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (CMC) has asked residents to pay property tax on or before May 31 to avail of a statutory rebate or face penalty.

The civic body has also given an option of paying garbage cess along with the property tax.

CMC Commissioner Anindita Mitra recently stated that a 25 per cent penalty in addition to interest at 12 per cent per annum will be levied on due property taxes from the date of issue of the tax bill to the date of actual payment after May 31.

BILLS SENT TO 1.08 LAKH PROPERTY OWNERS

The Chandigarh civic body has by post sent a total of 1,08,372 property tax bills by post.

There is a statutory 20 per cent rebate on annual property tax for residential properties and 10 per cent on other properties if the whole amount is paid by May 31.

For garbage cess, if advance payment for a whole year is deposited, the user fee for only 10 months is charged instead of 12 months. Similarly, for an advance payment for six months, the user fee for five and a half months is charged.
