Man found dead in Gateshead property as death treated as ‘unexplained’


A man has been found dead in a Birtley home after police were called to reports of concern for a person’s welfare.

Northumbria Police were called to the Mount Road area at around 10.40am on Sunday. Officers attended the scene and found the body of a man inside, and his next of kin have been notified.




Police are now looking into the circumstances surrounding the death, which is being treated as ‘unexplained’.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At about 10.40am on Sunday (May 26) we were alerted by the ambulance service to a report of concern for the welfare of a man inside an address in the Mount Road area of Birtley, Gateshead.


“Officers attended the scene and the body of a man was found inside the address, and his next of kin have been notified. An investigation is ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, which officers are currently treating as unexplained.
