Kamelot brought their Dark Asylum World tour to the Worcester Palladium on Friday night, supported by Visions of Atlantis and Frozen Crown. The Worcester crowd is amazing and well-versed in so many different styles of metal. The venue is a regular stop for power metal bands of the world. The US leg of the tour began on August 28th in Orlando Florida, and ends in Silver Spring, Maryland, on September 27th. Twenty-three dates in 30 days seems to be the length of many of the current US tours. They take a month break before embarking on an 18-date European tour beginning in the Netherlands on October 30th running to November 22nd, and ending in Spain.
Kamelot is a US-based power metal band that formed in Tampa, Florida, in 1987. Tampa has produced some of the bigger US power metal bands especially Savatage and later Iced Earth. Power Metal is my favorite category of music with bands like Iron Maiden, Helloween, and Sabaton, among many other European and worldwide bands, making up that genre. Through their 36 year existence, the band like many others, has had its fair share of lineup changes with only one original founding member remaining: guitarist Thomas Youngblood (1987 – present), vocalist Tommy Karevik (2012 – present), bassist Sean Tibbets (1991-1992, 2009–present), keyboardist/guitarist Oliver Palotai (2005 – present) and drummer Alex Landenburg (2019 – present). I first saw them as a headlining act in 2019 and have been a fan since.
Visions of Atlantis is an Australian Symphonic Metal band that formed in 2000. During that time they’ve released 9 studio Albums, 4 live albums and 2 Orchestral Albums. They’ve had many lineup changes through the years with a varity of previous memebers. The only founding member is the drummer Thomas Caser, the remaining members are vocalist Clementine Delauney (2013 – present) and guitarist Christian Douscha (2017 – present). bassist Herbert Glos (2017 – present) and male vocalist Michele Guaitoli (208 – present). They frequently tour with Kamelot.
Frozen Crown is an Italian Power / Symphonic metal band that formed in 2017 and has released 6 albums. During the COVID period, some of the founding members decided to leave the band. The current band consists of two founding members: Giada “Jade” Etro on vocals and Federico Mondelli who plays guitar, keyboards, and does backing vocals. They are joined by Francesco on bass (2021) note for this tour they didn’t bring him along, Niso Tomasini on guitar (2021), Alessia Lanzzone on guitar (2023) and Alexandra Lioness on guitar (2025).
Frozen Crown opened; the crowd was fully involved, with 90% ready for their set. They came out strong and played a highly energetic, catchy 7-song set, all of which basically have videos on the band’s YouTube channel. Vocalist Giada “Jade” Etro worked the stage well along with the three guitarists, who all split solos and were quite active on stage. Lead guitarist Alexandra Lioness has the chops to be reckon with, she’s a rock star and has a great stage presence as does the rest of the band. I expect this band will continue to grow in popularity and return to the Northeast and America before too long, I know the crowd was really getting into their set and wanted more! I really liked them and it was nice listening to their music while I was gearing up for my review.
Up next was Visions of Atlantis, no stranger to America, they too have quite a following. I was amazed with how many young fans were in attendance with their parents. It’s great to see the younger generations getting into real music; that’s very refreshing. They are a pirate-themed band that brought out a wooden style ship on stage. Singer Clementine Delauney is an amazing talent, with an amazing voice and a great stage presence – like so many other female singers who have really found a home with this style of Symphonic Power Metal. She and Michele Guaitoli share the vocal duties well; the blend is nice and very effective live. Many of the inhouse fans were fans of this band and I can see why; it was another highly energetic set, filled with their hit songs. They also have many videos with very high viewership numbers, which speaks highly of this band’s continued and growing popularity. I don’t see this band slowing down, I expect them to keep growing and maybe they’ll be back as a headlining act soon! I really enjoyed them and their style of music.
Finally after two great bands Kamelot took the stage; they also had a big stage layout too. The Palladium has a very high ceiling and a big stage so this show was perfect for this venue. Power metal bands do extremely well in the Northeast, especially at this venue. Singer Tommy Karevik has a great stage presence with a really cool metal outfit of tight fitting leather; clearly, he keeps himself in great shape – maybe he’s aiming to be the next Batman? Onto the show, Kamelot also has a long history of hits. I saw them as a headliner about 15 years ago, and they were great then as well as they are today. During the set they brought out the female singers from the opening bands, which was another reason this triple-bill show worked so well. Giada Etro came out to assist with 5 songs: 4 with Tommy and one with Tommy and Clementine, Clementine sang one song with Tommy. All three bands must have had a blast on this tour; the camaraderie between them and their history of touring together made for a great evening filled with great music and great fans! The American part of the tour has ended, but European fans have a treat coming when the European tour starts in a month. When they return again, definitely go if you have the chance, as you won’t be disappointed if Power Metal is your thing! I really enjoyed the entire show; all three bands played great sets and sounded great!
