Generation Mining starts early works on Marathon palladium, copper project build

TSX-listed Generation Mining has started with construction of the Marathon copper/palladium project, in Ontario.

The company has made initial payments of $30-million to secure critical equipment to site, as part of a broader $150-million ‘critical purchase’ plan. Some of these orders include crushing infrastructure, grinding and regrind mills, hydrocyclones, flotation equipment, thickeners and cranes.

Subsequent payments will be tied to agreed engineering, fabrication and delivery milestones.

The early works construction programme will run through the fourth quarter and into 2027, and includes upgrades to site access roads, clearing of the plant side, construction of early water management structures, expansion of the camp to meet construction and permanent camp requirements, establishment of a temporary fuel farm and site offices, initial bulk earthworks and aggregate production, and installation of temporary power.

Over the anticipated 13-year mine life of the Marathon project, it will produce about 2.1-million pounds of palladium, 532-million pounds of copper, 488 000 oz of platinum, 160 000 oz of gold and 3.05-million ounces of silver.
