A Port Melbourne house with an eye-catching concrete and fibreglass facade cemented a $1.252m sale on Saturday.

The two-bedroom home was designed by architect Robert McIntyre as an industrial modernist tribute, featuring a central fissure at the entrance.

Marshall White’s Nicholas Hoo described the 29 Little Cruikshank St address as a “pretty unique offering” and something of a hidden secret thanks to its laneway location.

Remarkably, the warehouse-like residence offering full-height windows, raw concrete floors with heating underneath and timber beams, transacted just 10 days after being put on the market.

Mr Hoo said a buyer made an offer at the first Saturday inspection, so the house was put up for auction seven days later with a $1.12m reserve.

About 120 groups looked through the home during the campaign.

The Port Melbourne home would not look out of place on television’s Grand Designs.

A ground-floor bathroom, laundry, side access and off-street parking add to the appeal.

Mr Hoo said the property’s distinctive look had proved popular, with four bidders competing for the keys.

A future owner-occupier made the winning bid.

“I think the owners went to the pub to celebrate,” Mr Hoo added.

In Melbourne’s east, a Mont Albert North house which has been in the same family since 1973 changed hands for $1.62m.

The founder of design company Grafico, Damian Corney, said he started his business from the 19 Arnott St home’s garage when his late nonno and nonna lived there.

The four-bedroom abode remains much the same now as when his grandparents were in residence, from the Franco Cozzo furniture to the basement and cantina room where salumi and prosciutto were made.

19 Arnott St, Mont Albert North, also sold on Saturday.

The basement and cantina where food was preserved is now a space for rest and relaxation.

Noel Jones’ Daniel D’Assisi said the abode, advertised with a $1.73m reserve, passed in on a $1.6m bid.

However, it sold to the highest bidders, a young couple, following post-auction negotiations.

Mr D’Assisi said for one of the new owners, the house had invoked a sense of nostalgia as it reminded him of his grandparents’ house.

Mr Corney described the sale as “the end of an era”.

“I’m so happy it went to a lovely family and they’re not going to demolish it,” he said.

“We’ll have a big pasta night and have everyone around the table for one last time, I think it will be an emotional experience.”
