Bianchet UltraFino Tonneau: Black ceramic and rose gold enhance an ultra-thin flying tourbillon

Independent watchmaker Bianchet has unveiled a new interpretation of its UltraFino Tonneau, a collection launched in 2025 that has since become a central part of the brand’s portfolio. Named the UltraFino Tonneau Black Ceramic and Gold, this latest variation marks another stage in the model’s evolution, following several editions exploring different materials. Behind this new release lies an ambitious approach to watchmaking, with every component designed to achieve exceptional thinness and balance. Yet it is primarily within the watch itself that Bianchet demonstrates its technical expertise.

A black ceramic case accented by a rose gold line

The Bianchet UltraFino Tonneau Black Ceramic and Gold features a tonneau-shaped case measuring 40 mm wide, 47.5 mm long, and just 8.9 mm thick. Made entirely from high-tech black ceramic, it combines satin-brushed surfaces with polished bevels that emphasize its geometric lines.

The most notable new feature is the integration of an 18-karat rose gold line positioned beneath the bezel. This detail replaces the rubber gasket typically visible on other versions of the UltraFino. The slender metallic accent creates a visual separation between the ceramic surfaces while introducing a subtle contrast.

The integrated bracelet is also crafted from black ceramic, with satin-finished links and polished edges. Bianchet also supplies an additional black rubber strap. A tool-free quick-change system allows the wearer to switch easily between the two configurations.

Sapphire crystals protect both the front and back of the watch, providing a clear view of its mechanical architecture. The watch offers 50 meters of water resistance, making it suitable for everyday wear and exposure to splashes.

An openworked dial that puts the mechanics on display

Unlike a traditional watch, the UltraFino Tonneau Black Ceramic and Gold does not feature a solid dial. Instead, its fully skeletonized design reveals the movement’s components, making them an integral part of its visual identity.

The titanium movement structure features a black PVD coating, creating aesthetic continuity with the ceramic case. The skeletonized bridges form an open composition, allowing the wearer to observe the gears and various mechanical components of the caliber.

The rose gold-toned hands provide contrast against the dark mechanical architecture. They are treated with luminescent material to improve legibility in low-light conditions.

Through the transparent caseback, the wearer can also admire the rose gold winding rotor, whose color echoes the metallic accent positioned beneath the bezel.

The UT01 caliber: an automatic flying tourbillon just 3.85 mm thick

At the heart of this Bianchet timepiece lies the in-house UT01 caliber, an automatic mechanical movement introduced in 2025 with the B 1.618 UltraFino. It represents one of the young watchmaker’s most distinctive technical achievements.

The movement measures just 3.85 mm thick, a remarkable figure for an automatic caliber incorporating a flying tourbillon. Its construction relies on grade 5 titanium components, selected particularly for their low weight and mechanical properties.

The caliber’s layout emphasizes symmetry. A suspended barrel positioned at 12 o’clock faces the flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock. This arrangement creates visual balance while prominently displaying the movement’s principal mechanisms.

The flying tourbillon completes one full rotation per minute. Unlike a traditional tourbillon supported by an upper bridge, its cage is supported from only one side, providing a clearer view of its operation. The cage itself measures just 2.66 mm in height.

The UT01 caliber operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz) and contains 29 jewels. Its automatic winding system delivers a 60-hour power reserve, allowing the watch to remain unworn for approximately two and a half days without stopping.

Bianchet also claims shock resistance of up to 5,000 G, reflecting the engineering work involved in making this particularly thin movement robust. The skeletonized bridges feature hand-applied finishing, combining traditional watchmaking decoration with a focus on reducing weight.

Bianchet UltraFino Tonneau Black Ceramic and Gold: price and availability

The new Bianchet UltraFino Tonneau Black Ceramic and Gold is priced at CHF 80,500 before taxes. It sits above the previous white ceramic and deep blue ceramic versions, which retail for CHF 72,500, representing a price difference of CHF 8,000.

Bianchet has not disclosed production numbers or a detailed delivery schedule in the information released. Interested buyers can contact the brand directly through its official website, bianchet.com, for ordering details and availability in their respective markets.
