Rooftop stand-off LIVE: Police engaging with man on roof of property in Hebburn, South Tyneside


Police are at the scene of a rooftop stand-off in South Tyneside.

A man has climbed onto the roof of a property on Coniston Avenue in Hebburn.




Officers are in attendance and are currently engaging with the man.

They have taped off the area while they deal with the incident.

We will bring you the latest updates as we get them.


Man remains on the roof – six hours later

The man remains on top of the roof on Coniston Avenue in Hubburn.

It has been around six hours since the emergency services were first contacted.

Ambulance service stood down by police

The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) said they were called to the incident at 11.14am this morning but have now been stood down by police.

A spokesperson said:

“We were called to an incident at an address in Hebburn at 11.14am this morning (25 June).

“We dispatched an ambulance crew and two crews from our Hazardous Area Response Team , but all three resources have now left having been stood down by the police.”

A number of people also appear to be watching the incident unfold.

The police cordon has also been extended.

The male on the roof

The man on the roof is wearing a pair of shorts but no top.

He is standing up on the very top of the roof.

The male appears to be throwing what looks like roof slates.

What have Northumbria Police said?

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said:

” Shortly before midday today (Tuesday), we received a report of a disturbance at an address on Coniston Avenue in Hebburn.

“It was reported that a man had climbed onto the roof of a property and was refusing to come down.

“Officers are currently in attendance at the scene and are engaging with the man in an attempt to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.

“A cordon is in place.”
