AI needs ‘entirely new’ infrastructure, says Taiwan’s Chief Telecom

TAIPEI — Data centers and all of their supporting infrastructure will need to be redesigned to cope with the boom in generative artificial intelligence, creating new opportunities for growth, according to one of Taiwan’s top data center operators.

Jacky Liu, the president of Chief Telecom, told Nikkei Asia that all aspects of data centers — from power grid capacity to the load-bearing capabilities of floors — will need significant upgrades to meet the requirements of AI servers.
