Attachments

Aden, Yemen – In a significant step towards improving the health of Yemenis, refugees, and asylum-seekers, the Governor of Aden and the United Nations Refugee Agency, UNHCR, are proud to launch the Sewerage Infrastructure Project, funded by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) and the Government of Yemen.

This initiative will benefit approximately 1.5 million people by 2026, significantly enhancing the quality of life and health conditions in Dar Saad, Sheikh Othman, and Al Mansura districts. By improving sanitation infrastructure, the project will help prevent waterborne diseases, reduce environmental contamination, and ensure a cleaner, healthier environment for future generations.

The project aims to provide safe and reliable sanitation services to vulnerable groups, including refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, and host communities in Aden. This project will rehabilitate and expand the existing sewage network, reducing environmental contamination and improving public health in the region.

Additionally, this project aims to ensure the sustainability of the sewage infrastructure by building the capacity of local technicians and training new university graduates.

UNHCR is committed to working closely with the local authorities and all stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of this critical project, which represents a major advancement in the infrastructure and public health of Aden.
