Dj Changing Currents brings UK EDM vibes to Heineken Silver Room

A trip to Jamaica is on the bucket list for many international visitors, and that was no different for the 23-year-old United Kingdom disc jockey, Changing Currents.

Eager to experience the birthplace of dancehall and reggae — what he calls ‘the greatest place on earth’ — the UK-based deejay found the perfect opportunity for his long-awaited trip to Jamaica.

Flown in from The Old Smoke to showcase his talent at the Heineken Silver Room 2.0 EDM experience, Changing Currents sought to immerse himself in the island’s culture while adding some international pizzazz to the EDM party.

Patrons expected a snazzy, high-energy experience, but his ability to pivot and blend both genres was tested at the Chinese Benevolent Association.

Since breaking into the industry in 2020, the UK sensation has travelled the world, connecting with people through his music.

At the event, he seamlessly repurposed EDM beats with the rhythms of Jamaican artistes like Vybz Kartel and Valiant.

‘I think it’s super important to be mindful of who is in the audience, and loving dancehall definitely made this job easy,’ he stated.

Changing Currents’ passion for music began in high school, where he found solace in producing beats, sparking his deep connection to the art form.

Starting with local gigs back home in Brighton, he quickly expanded to global stages, bringing his distinct sound to audiences worldwide, ‘With time, practice, and the help of effective content, I now find myself touring the world, doing the thing I love most,’ he said, proudly.

As the spotlight lit up the stage and the crowd buzzed with anticipation, Changing Currents confidently stepped onto the stage as the final act.

Jamaica was meant to be just a DJ trip, but it turned into the most inspiring and spiritual creative break yet. I have never felt so connected to music.

He recounted, ‘As soon as I entered the space, the sound system hit us in the best way possible,’ describing the electric atmosphere of the Silver Room.

‘I really enjoyed playing dancehall…’ he added, as the crowd’s swaying, dancing, and singing to his beats made it clear he had captured their attention.

The energy in the room was electric. ‘The Silver Room music system was pumping…the good music was the highlight of my trip here,’ DJ Changing Currents stated, recounting the experience.

Looking ahead, the Changing Currents expressed his excitement for upcoming projects, revealing that his time in Jamaica wasn’t just about the performance.

‘The team managed to create a lot of music during our time in Jamaica. We can’t wait to finish those up and release them soon; we’re also off to a short Canada tour, which I’m very excited about,’ he shared, enthusiastically.
