After failing to play a single minute of competitive football during his loan spell with FC Augsburg in the first half of the season, Alasdair Gold has claimed Japhet Tanganga could return to Tottenham Hotspur and cut short his stay in the Bundesliga.
Japhet Tanganga has developed through the ranks at Tottenham over the years, and has made 50 appearances for the Spurs first team (Transfermarkt). Unfortunately, he has never managed to establish himself as a first team regular.
That wasn’t about to change when Ange Postecoglou took over in the summer, and the decision was made to send Tanganga on a season-long loan to German side, FC Augsburg.
Sadly, Tanganga suffered an injury before the season began and, despite now being passed fit, he has not managed to break into the starting line up for the Bundesliga outfit, and has made the bench just once, back in November of last year.
Is Japhet Tanganga coming back to Spurs?
With game time severely limited, the loan spell has proven to be a rather pointless exercise for Tanganga thus far. So much so, in fact, that Alasdair Gold has suggested the 24-year-old could be heading back to North London this month.
Discussing Tanganga’s situation for Football.London, Gold wrote: “Tanganga could soon also end up back in north London with the Bundesliga side looking to reduce the size of their squad after a change in manager and a switch from a back three to a back four, meaning six centre-backs for two spots.”
It is not known yet whether Tanganga would remain with Spurs if his loan spell was cut short, or whether he would be shipped out again for the second half of the season.
Spurs Web Opinion
It must be so frustrating to be out in a different country trying to prove yourself like Tanganga is, and being given absolutely no chance to play at all. We should recall him and arrange a new switch that will offer him more opportunities.
