Bishop of Salisbury steps back during financial audit of church funds | News

Rt Revd Karen Gorham to serve as acting bishop

Author: Anna DaviesPublished 9 minutes ago

The Rt Revd Stephen Lake, the Bishop of Salisbury, has voluntarily stepped back from his duties while a financial audit is taking place on two funds associated with his office.

These funds are separate from the parish share and other finances managed by the Diocesan Board of Finance.

The Diocese of Salisbury confirmed the temporary change in leadership, stating that the Bishop of Sherborne, the Rt Revd Karen Gorham, will continue the role of acting diocesan bishop during this period.

The decision comes after an ongoing review to ensure transparency and proper handling of church finances.

The audit of these specific funds is part of routine governance to review financial practices and maintain accountability within the diocese.
