Paris 2024 welterweight silver medalist Marco Verde joins Eddie Reynoso

Mexico’s top amateur boxer will share a team with its top professional boxer, as Paris 2024 silver medalist Marco Verde announced that Eddie Reynoso will serve as his manager going forward, though Radames Hernández will remain his trainer.

That said, he’s not confirming a pro debut yet, instead waiting until next year to find out if boxing will be part of the 2028 Games in Los Angeles. At just 22 years old, he could still make plenty of noise in the unpaid ranks before turning pro; with his profile, it’s not like he’ll be hurting for money.

Verde entered the Games with a Pan-Am gold medal under his belt and impressed en route to the welterweight finals, notably taking out world bronze medalist Nishan Dev and Team GB’s lone male medalist in Lewis Richardson. Though he became one of many victims of the Uzbek Onslaught, dropping a decision to Asadkhuja Muydinkhujaev, he’s clearly a genuine talent with a very bright future. I’m glad he’s getting the support that talent merits.
