Alasdair Gold says people at Hotspur Way were ‘shocked’ by Spurs player this month – Spurs Web

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Rodrigo Bentancur shocked the staff working at Hotspur Way by recovering as quickly as he did from his ankle injury.

Bentancur has had a torrid 10 months since first picking up an ACL injury in Tottenham’s defeat at the King Power Stadium back in February of last year.

That injury came at a time when the Uruguayan had established himself as one of the club’s most important players and was seemingly on the verge of being recognised as one of the best across the Premier League.

The 26-year-old worked hard to return to action back in November but disaster struck in his first game back against Aston Villa as he was on the receiving end of a nasty tackle from Matty Cash and found himself sidelined with an ankle injury.

It was initially reported that Bentancur was not expected to be back in action until February (The Athletic), which is why it came as a pleasant surprise to Spurs fans when they saw his name on the teamsheet against Bournemouth.

The midfielder completed nearly an hour against the Cherries and came through the fixture unscathed, which would have delighted Ange Postecoglou.

Bentancur shocked Spurs staff with quick return

Gold has now revealed that the staff at the club are shocked by just how swiftly the former Juventus man has recovered.

The journalist said on his YouTube channel about Bentancur: “He spent all of last week training with the first team and I’ve spoken to lots of people within the club and honestly, people are shocked in the club.

“It’s taken them by surprise as well. People weren’t expecting him back anywhere near now, probably a month or so people were expecting him [back].”

Spurs Web Opinion

Bentancur’s recovery from his initial ACL injury was also ahead of schedule, just like his rehabilitation from the ankle injury. While that might be partly down to the hard work that the midfielder has put in, it also suggests that he is quite a quick healer.

In fact, when one looks at Bentancur’s fitness record throughout his career, it is clear that he is not injured often. The last ten months have been a major anomaly.
