Alasdair Gold has confirmed that Trevoh Chalobah is on Tottenham’s radar ahead of the summer window but he suggested that the Lilywhites may be reluctant to meet Chelsea’s asking price for the centre-back.
According to various reports over the last few weeks, Chalobah is one of several players that Chelsea are expected to cash in on as soon as the transfer market opens, with the Blues needing to raise funds to ensure they do not fall foul of PSR (The Times).
Trevoh Chalobah is of interest to Tottenham
Several outlets have reported recently that Tottenham are expected to push ahead with a move for the 24-year-old as Ange Postecoglou seeks to bolster his options at the back (The Telegraph).
According to an update by The Standard, Spurs could have competition to contend with from Man Utd for the defender, with the Red Devils said to be big fans of the England international.
Chelsea want £30m to sell Trevoh Chalobah
Gold has now revealed that the Blues are demanding £30m for their academy graduate, which Tottenham might not be willing to pay.
The journalist said on his YouTube channel: “They also have Trevoh Chalobah as well who has had a hamstring injury that kept him out for the bulk of the season. Spurs like him as well.
“He’s been valued at around £30m because he still has four years left on his contract. The issue with Chalobah is that I think he’d be really good for Spurs, but £30m would be quite a lot for a fourth-choice centre-back.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I do not think you can hope to sign any half-decent player for less than £30m these days. That is a reasonable price to pay for someone like Chalobah, who is homegrown and can also cover the right-back role if required.
Whether Chalobah would be prepared to battle for a place with Romero, Dragusin and van de Ven remains to be see when he could likely move to another Premier League side lower down the table and play every week.
