A scintillating clash between Field Of Gold and Delacroix could take place at Glorious Goodwood on July 30, with the latter on Thursday backed into a best-price 6-1 (from 16) for the Visit Qatar Sussex Stakes. Delacroix, who won the Coral-Eclipse in last-gasp fashion at Sandown over 1m2f, would be dropping back to a mile for the first time since his juvenile campaign.
Could he beat the Juddmonte star? Two of our tipsters gave opposing views on the Racing Postcast, with the full show to be released at 7pm . . .
‘I was absolutely blown away by his Eclipse performance’
By Robbie Wilders, tipster
I think Delacroix might beat Field Of Gold. I was absolutely blown away by his performance in the Eclipse at Sandown, where he ran the final furlong quicker than any Eclipse winner in the last 30 years. He overcame a fair bit of adversity, having had to be switched for a run after his path was blocked.
I could see him making it over a mile. He’s now fairly priced after the market move although it’s not confirmed he will definitely go to Goodwood. It’s been a market correction.
‘I don’t see anything beating Field Of Gold’
By Harry Wilson, tipster
From what we saw of Field Of Gold at Royal Ascot, I just don’t see what’s going to beat him. He showed an electric turn of foot there and that will be a big asset over a mile at Goodwood. He’s going to be gone and no one will see which way he went.
I can’t see Delacroix beating him. He stayed on so strongly over a mile and a quarter at Sandown and dropping back to a mile on a speed track like Goodwood isn’t an obvious move. You could see Ryan Moore trying to dictate the race from the front but I think Field Of Gold would range upside him and then take off.
