Gold Coast mansion that once hosted parties for The Rolling Stones and Whitney Houston fails to sell at eye-watering price


A palatial Queensland mansion that once hosted superstars The Rolling Stones and Frank Sinatra has failed to find a buyer.

The extravagant Gold Coast waterfront pad dubbed ‘Bartinon’, which features seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms, was passed in at $17million.

Located in ritzy Sorento, the grand trophy home was known to attract a lengthy roster of A-list guests including Whitney Houston

Constructed in the 1980s, it was once the most expensive property ever built on the Gold Coast, reported The Courier Mail on Wednesday. 

Original owners businessman Sir Justin Hickey and his wife Lady Barbara Hickey developed a reputation for throwing lavish parties’ on the property.

According to the publication there were just six bidders for the amazing spread, which last sold for $7.22million in 2014.

Situated on the Nerang River only minutes from the CBD, the 6,500 square metre ‘Mediterranean-inspired’ property has an entire wing dedicated to a ‘wellness centre’.

Other highlights include a games room, three bars, and a master retreat.

There’s also a pool, tennis court and a garage that can accommodate up to eight cars.

It also has a boat ramp, and shed and a private pontoon.

Designed with lavish finishings including Italian marble and granite, the home is built from sandstone in ‘resort style’.

A dramatic sweeping double stair case with balcony welcomes guests at the entrance.

The mansion also boasts over-sized living areas, Dutch hood awnings, arched black-frame windows.

Other features include and floor-to-ceiling French doors, expansive tropical grounds and an covered entertainment ‘sector’ with built-in BBQ.

Another highlight is a formal living area with sunken lounge and wood fireplace. 

Meanwhile, there’s also a cellar, infra-red sauna, and marble spa bath, while each of the bedrooms boast wraparound balcony’s.

Property records reveal that since the home was built in the 1980s it has been under the hammer five times.

It was first sold for $4.25million in 2001 and was snapped up again in 2006 for $6.665million. In 2009 it was sold again for $8million before dropping in value for its 2014 sale.
