The Gold Cup Inn at Nether Silton, near Thirsk, closed last year after the landlord departed the pub – leaving the pub group who own it with no option but to close the doors of the village pub.

After the Gold Cup Inn went on the sale and lease market earlier this year, it has now found a new owner, who is opening the pub this Saturday (March 30).
Now that it has new tenants, the pub has had a new lick of paint and now showcases a red frontage, while inside, it now has a pool table, dart board, and a revamped seating section.
The property is a semi-detached two-storey pub, which is understood to date from the late 19th Century – with the new owners excited to get stuck into the new challenge of running the pub.

Robyn Wrigley, who has taken on the challenge of running the Gold Cup Inn has expressed her delight at being able to take on her own pub.
Having worked in pubs for several years, including Michelin restaurant The Black Swan at Oldstead, this is the 25-year-old’s first pub she has managed solo.

She said: “I always wanted to take on my own pub and seeing that the Cold Cup had been closed for a year we couldn’t miss the opportunity. To start with we will only be serving drinks but looking to progress onto food once we have gotten the pub up and going again.
“This is the perfect country pub in my eyes and we are super excited to see what we can do with it.
“At the age of 25, I think it is a really exciting opportunity. The pub is called the Gold Cup as the original Gold Cup Cheltenham horse race was at the top of Sutton Bank called the Black Hambleton racecourse where the Gold Cup began.”
