Harrow hospital receives gold award for commitment to patient safety

The Clementine Churchill Hospital in Harrow, affiliated with Circle Health Group, has been acknowledged nationally for its dedication to patient safety.

To earn the gold award, the hospital’s staff and doctors meticulously collected and maintained precise data related to all orthopedic treatments.

The National Joint Registry (NJR) evaluates the quality of orthopedic joint replacement surgeries to enhance patient outcomes and support medical professionals and manufacturers. It collects high-quality orthopedic data to promote patient safety, care quality, and cost-effectiveness in joint replacement procedures.

The NJR introduced the ‘NJR Quality Data Provider’ certificate program to guide hospitals in achieving high-quality standards and recognise those meeting registry targets.

To attain a gold award, hospitals must exceed six challenging targets during the 2022/23 audit period, including compliance with the NJR’s mandatory national audit to assess data completeness and quality.

The NJR Data Quality Audit ensures accurate reporting of joint replacement procedures in comparison to those recorded in the hospital’s Patient Administration System. This guarantees the NJR collects the most accurate and comprehensive data across all hospitals performing these surgeries.

NJR targets also encompass a high level of patient consent for data inclusion and timely responses to safety alerts. The Clementine Churchill Hospital, based on Sudbury Hill, Harrow, excelled in each category, earning accreditation as a gold standard data provider.

Lisa Trybus, Executive Director at The Clementine Churchill Hospital, said: “Improving patient safety is of the upmost importance and is a key priority for all staff. We fully support the National Joint Registry’s work in facilitating improvement in clinical outcomes and governance for the benefit of joint replacement patients and we’re delighted to be recognised as a ‘Gold NJR Quality Data Provider’.”

National Joint Registry Medical Director, Mr Tim Wilton, said: “Congratulations to colleagues at The Clementine Churchill Hospital. The Quality Data Provider Award demonstrates the high standards being met towards ensuring compliance with the NJR and is often a reflection of strong departmental efforts to achieve such status.

Registry data provides an important source of evidence for regulators, such as the Care Quality Commission, to inform their judgements about services, as well as being a fundamental driver to inform improved quality of care for patients.”
