Heartstopping moment man leaps off a five-storey building into a pool to evade cops

A man has been caught on camera taking a death-defying leap off a five-storey balcony into a pool to avoid police capture.

Police attended the Canopy Apartment complex on Simpsons Road on the Gold Coast to conduct a welfare check on a man following calls from concerned neighbours on Sunday.

The man, aged in his 30s, climbed over the balcony railing of his apartment in an attempt to evade police.

Residents and neighbours captured the heartstopping moment the man jumped from the balcony into the apartment complex’s pool.

The footage shows police trying to convince the man to climb back over the rail to safety.

‘He can’t climb back up,’ one woman is heard saying before the man lets go of the rail.

‘Holy ‘s**t he jumped’.

It is understood police called specialist negotiators to help convince the man not to jump.

Incredibly, the man made a lucky escape and plunged into the pool below suffering only minor injuries.

Witnesses claim the man climbed out of the pool, burst out of the complex and ran through a neighbour’s backyard before fleeing on foot down the street.

Officers found the man at his parent’s house late on Sunday afternoon.

Police are still investigating the incident and the man has yet to be charged.
