New Delhi: While India’s opening woes continued in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa, still they managed a respectable total of 176 in 20 overs in Barbados. Virat Kohli emerged as the top-scorer for the side 76 runs while the wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant failed as he departed for a golden duck off just two deliveries.

As soon as Pant got dismissed, fans were all over on the social media platforms criticising his inclusion while lamenting at Sanju Samson’s exclusion from the event. While Pant played all the eight games in the showpiece event for the side, Samson was benched for the entire tournament and didn’t even get a game.

Pant’s performance has been average in this marquee event and he has not been able to make a mark as per his status. Not only Pant, Chennai Super Kings star batter Shivam Dube also failed in the event and could not play a impressive knock. Dube, however, played a fine cameo in the summit clash but Pant failed miserably in the most crucial clash.

While one social media user commented that in search of gold, we lost the diamond while the other wrote that the only fraud Pant has done in his career is destroying the career of Samson.

Here are some of the reactions

Meanwhile, India did a fair job by scoring 176 runs in the first innings after losing three quick wickets of Rohit, Pant and Suryakumar. While Kohli rose back to form, Axar Patel also played a fine cameo.
