STUNNING SUCCESS: Bobbie Wright (pictured left) showcased his phenomenal skills at a prestigious global tournament in China
A Cheshire man and his family are said to be thrilled after he scooped gold at the world’s biggest golf tournament for golfers with learning disabilities.
Bobbie Wright, who lives in Widnes, won the top medal at the long-awaited Macau Golf Masters in China.
The international competition marked the event’s first edition since 2019 due to an interruption by the pandemic following a run of annual events since 2012.
The world’s largest golf tournament for those with intellectual disabilities saw 70 golfers from 21 countries travel to Macau to compete at the famous Macau Golf Club.
This year’s edition was the largest to date and marked a historic moment as the athletes competed head-to-head for the first time.
Bobbie was overjoyed after winning the gold medal while also seizing the title of overall best player, saying: “I was really happy to win – I’d worked hard practicing and happy it paid off”.
Paula Wright, Bobbie’s mum, said: “I’m so proud of Bobbie and his achievements, seeing him play and win and being part of his golfing journey.
“Attending the event was brilliant – all the golfers from all over the world and their families are lovely people, we have made some lovely lifelong friends”.
The sportsman travelled to Macau with his dad, who coaches him in the sport, and his mum and sisters who proudly saw him collect his gold medal and trophy at the distinguished ceremony at Studio City in Macau.
