Tumbles are, after all not bad all the time! At least not for Suni Lee. While all the eyes were on the Americans in the Super Cup, fans did not get a prime Suni Lee on display. Lee, who was determined to perfect her twisting Jaeger at the Winter Cup before trying to have it named after her at the Baku Worlds, took a devastating fall. However, quite surprisingly, when most of the fans are rueing the missed opportunity it might just be a blessing in disguise for the 2020 Olympic all-round gold medalist.

Is Suni Lee’s fall in the Winter Cup a blessing? 

Reactions came in thick and fast soon after Lee failed to impress at the Winter Cup. While most of them had somewhat of a negative connotation, one particular tweet chose to dig deep into the history. And guess what? It came out with interesting facts. As a matter of fact, Suni Lee had a forgettable build-up ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Trying to master her craft, Lee took a similar fall before going on to conquer the Olympics.

Recalling the incident from the past, an account named ‘Poor Lawyer’ wrote, “Suni Lee fell twice at 2021 GK Classic (once each on bars and beam), 2.5 months before she became the Olympic All Around gold medalist. I’m not that worried! Go, Suni!”  Indeed, this might be a blessing in disguise for Suni Lee in so many ways.

Lee looked rusty after coming out of a terrible kidney complication, which was pretty much expected. Soon after her Olympic glory, Lee almost had a career-ending break as she was diagnosed with an incurable kidney disease. It was sheer determination and hard work by Lee that made her once again live the Olympic dreams. Suni Lee survived a disastrous fall ahead of the Tokyo Olympics

Lee came in as the favorite in the US Classic in 2021. She participated in the balance beam and uneven bars, further hyping up the expectations of the crowd. However, things did not go quite in her favor. While performing her routine, Lee fell off from both the apparatus, ending her journey on a somber note.

Surprisingly, this failure was unable to taint Lee’s performance in the games. The 20-year-old displayed a flamboyant aura of gymnastics to clinch the overall gold medal as the first Asian American woman to do it.
