Korea took gold medals at the SD Biosensor World Wheelchair Mixed Doubles Curling Championship 2024 in the Gangneung Curling Centre after beating China, 8-3, in the final.
Italy took bronze after defeating Japan, 8-4.
Gold medal game: China versus Korea
Korea capitalised on their hammer in the first end and scored two.

After a perfect hit-and-roll by Korea’s Cho Minkyong with her last, Korea stole a single in the second end.
China scored a single in the third. After a perfect tap by Cho, Korea scored two in the fourth end for a 5-1 lead at half time.
In the fifth, Korea forced China to draw for one in their Power-Play end. Wang Meng executed the task at hand and China put a single on the board.
In the sixth, Cho made an excellent tap for three and an 8-2 lead.

In the seventh, China scored one after an amazing run-back by Wang. China 3, Korea 8 after seven.
In the eighth, Korea ran China out of stones to claim gold medals, 8-3.
Afterwards, Korea’s Cho Minkyong said, “I’m feeling very-very-very good! We were very desperate for this win because we were preparing for a very long time.”
Talking about the game, her teammate, Jeong Taeyeong added, “China is very strong in take-outs, so we had to calculate the angle of the stones to block them, so they can’t just remove our stones.”
“We didn’t win any medals for a long time and our organisation was very supportive and they were hoping for a medal. So we really had to get it for them as well,” he added.

Gold medal game: China 3, Korea 8
Bronze medal game: Japan versus Italy
Japan scored a single in the first end and stole a single in the second end.

In the third, Italy’s Orietta Berto made a perfect take-out to score three to take the lead for the first time, 3-2.
In the fourth, Japan’s Ogawa Aki made a great draw for one to tie the game at 3-3. In the fifth, Japan stole one for a 4-3 lead. Italy responded with a single in the sixth to tie the game again, 4-4.
In the seventh, Italy stole four when Japan’s hit-and-stay attempt wasn’t successful and their shooter rolled too far. Japan 4, Italy 8 after seven.
In the eighth, Japan utilised their Power-Play, but Italy eventually ran them out of stones to claim the victory, 8-4, and the bronze medals.
After the game, Italy’s Orietta Berto said, “I can’t speak, I have no words. It’s incredible. It’s the first wheelchair curling medal for Italy!”
Her teammate, Paolo Ioriatti added, “It was the second time we played for bronze medals, two years ago we lost that game, and we wanted a medal now. The colour of the medal wasn’t important for us, we wanted a medal this year.”
“I want to congratulate all the staff, the World Curling Federation, everything was perfect,” he added.

Bronze medal game: Japan 4, Italy 8
The gold medallist Korean team are female player Cho Minkyong and male player Jeong Taeyeong, supported by their coach Park Mihye.
The silver medallist Chinese team are female player Wang Meng and male player Yang Jinqiao, supported by their coach Ru Xia.
The bronze medallist Italian team are female player Orietta Berto and male player Paolo Ioriatti, supported by their coach Roberto Maino.
