The Logies’s awards categories have had a major shake-up this year.
Whereas previously awards were divided into the public-voted Most Popular and the jury-voted Most Outstanding, in 2024 the public and the jury’s get lumped together with TV ratings numbers to determine, for example, the Best Drama Program. The public’s vote makes up half of it – so your vote still matters!
(The big three – the Gold Logie, Most Popular New Talent and Most Popular Presenter – remain voted on by just the public. And voting remains open till 10.30pm AEST.)
That means the ceremony will be mercifully shorter, right???
Well… we still have 23 awards to get through, with a few previously lumped-together categories now getting breathing room to better reflect genre and content differences.
This year, we have separate Best Lead Actor/Actress awards for both Comedy and Drama.
Also, Best Comedy is now split into Best Scripted Comedy and Best Comedy Entertainment, which is for variety, panel and quiz shows.
Similarly, Best Reality is now Best Reality Competition (Alone, The Block, etc) and Best Reality Structure (Muster Dogs, Gogglebox, etc).
Best Drama, Miniseries or Telemovie has also been split into Best Drama and Best Miniseries or Telemovie.
Finally, we also have a new Best News/Public Affairs Presenter award, separate from Best News Coverage or Public Affairs Report (which goes to a specific episode/report).
