Hearst came out strong with a five-goal first period; Gold Miners fall to 8-29-4-1 season record

HEARST – The Hearst Lumberjacks scored five times in the first period as they defeated the visiting Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 7-4 t the Claude Larose Recreation Centre Saturday night.
The Lumberjacks came out storming in the first to make up for the 4-1 home setback Friday night at the hands of visiting Gold Miners.
The Lumberjacks scored three times in a span of 1:20 as Mathieu Comeau, Maddoc Newton and Will Robinson gave them the 3-0 lead before the halfway point of the period.
DonHeavan Veilleux netted an unassisted tally at 14:14 to make it 4-0.
Noah Woodward got the Gold Miners on the board as he scored his 19th at 15:58 of the opening frame on a power play.
Aiden Kalin made it 5-1 on a power play of their own at 18:21.
In the second Noah Woodward cut into the lead with his 20th of the season on another power play to make it 5-2.
Kalin answered back with his second of the game as the fans at the Claude Larose Recreation Centre were entertained enjoying a 6-2 Lumberjacks lead after 40 minutes.
The Miners Inde Abresch closed the gap with a power play marker for his 13th of the season to make is 6-3 Lumberjacks midway through the third.
Jack Graham notched is first of the season for the visitors which made it 6-4 with just over five minutes left in regulation.
The Lumberjacks Justin Carriere scored an empty netter in the final seconds to make it 7-4.
With the win the Lumberjacks improve to 22-12-3-2 while the Gold Miners move to 8-29-4-1.
