Media Links, which offers solutions for the convergence, management and transport of media over IP, has renewed its Gold sponsorship of SVG Europe.
The company’s IP-based technology has been the backbone of football World Cups, winter and summer Olympic events, major American Football events, Asian Games, and many other high-profile global sporting events. Its Xscend IP media platform is set to be in action in Paris this summer, transporting an abundance of contribution media feeds from Paris under and across the Atlantic Ocean to the US.
Xscend’s hitless protection switching will be also deployed across multiple 100Gbps undersea optical trunks to allow for perfect media signal reconstruction at the receiving end in the event of intermittent or more frequently occurring errors in any one path.
Media Links ProMD-EMS Enhanced Management System will also be in operation, controlling, monitoring and assuring media service integrity across the Xscend platform from France to the US.
Other highlights this year include completing the world’s first demonstration of Precision Time Protocol (PTP) and Studio to Transmitter Link (STL) using IP over microwave dedicated lines.
Together with partner Oscilloquartz, Media Links conducted a demonstration of the technology on an existing microwave install at a broadcasting station in the Philippines. It used Media Links’ STL over IP/PTP device the MDP3020 SFN to transmit both broadcast content and PTP timing, and leveraged the existing equipment installed by the broadcast station for normal microwave transmit and receive operations. As a result, the team confirmed the normal operation of the transmission of signals and the accurate transmission of timing by PTP. It therefore succeeded in realising the world’s first STL using IP and PTP using microwave lines.
This year has also seen the company form a number of new partnership agreements, including with Sunteq in Slovakia, Wachowiak & Syn in Poland, and Broadcast Meditel in Spain.
