Continuing the naked dress look favored by red-carpet stars in the last year, Miley Cyrus made a major impression on the red carpet for the 2024 Grammys.
The “Flowers” and “Used to Be Young” singer, nominated for six 2024 Grammy Awards, arrived for the show at downtown Los Angeles’ Crypto.com arena wearing a see-through, net-like dress made of hundreds of gold safety pins. Arranged geometrically, the pins created a sort of cone bra effect of two circles up top as well as a thong-like shape below. The look is a custom creation by designer John Galliano for Maison Margiela, the once-cancelled, now-resurgent fashion genius who is the subject of an upcoming documentary, High & Low, debuting in March. His recent Maison Margiela couture show has been a subject of fascination ever since it was presented on Jan. 25, from its decadent Parisian looks to the porcelain-doll makeup created by Pat McGrath.
For the 2024 Grammys red carpet, Cyrus didn’t opt for glassy porcelain-doll-style makeup. Instead, her big beauty moment came courtesy of a dramatic updo of her brunette locks that called to mind classic ’70s hair favored by country stars like her godmother, Dolly Parton.
W magazine noted that Cyrus’ Maison Margiela safety-pin dress calls to mind a look that Galliano previously designed way back in 1997 for his own eponymous collection.
The music star paired her nearly naked dress with Maison Margiela gold velvet Tabi heels and jewelry by Tiffany & Co.
Cyrus also won the first award presented on the live telecast, for best pop solo performance for “Flowers.” It also marked her first-ever Grammy. She changed into a black sequined Tom Ford halter neck georgette jumpsuit to accept that award from Mariah Carey. Her accessories included a Tiffany & Co. Elsa Peretti bone cuff in 18-karat gold.
She later performed “Flowers” during the show and changed into yet another outfit.
