Monitor Audio has unveiled its Gold Series 6G loudspeakers, a sixth-generation line-up said to represent a significant leap forward in both design and acoustic performance. The line comprises six models for two channel use as well as home theatre applications. Prices range from £1,000 for the On-Wall 6G to £5,500 for the flagship Gold 500 6G per pair.
At the core of the Gold Series 6G’s performance is the introduction of Hexagonal Diaphragm Technology (HDT). This new metal cone design draws inspiration from the advanced RDT III cones found in Monitor Audio’s flagship models, including the Platinum Series 3G.
HDT cones feature a unique hexagonal pattern that disrupts symmetries in the cone’s breakup, effectively increasing the frequency response by 10 per cent over previous designs. Combined with Monitor Audio’s proprietary C-CAM technology, these cones offer improved strength and fatigue resistance, apparently resulting in some of the most piston-like drivers the company has ever produced.
Another highlight of the Gold Series 6G is the incorporation of the MPD III (Micro Pleated Diaphragm) high-frequency transducer. This third-generation tweeter has been refined to deliver even greater consistency, clarity, and accuracy in the high-frequency range.
The Gold 500 6G is the flagship model of the range. It features the MPD III transducer, a 3-inch midrange driver, and twin 8-inch bass drivers, all equipped with HDT, C-CAM cones. Ideal for larger rooms and high-end audio setups, the Gold 500 6G is priced at £5,500 per pair.
Offering a more compact footprint is the Gold 300 6G: For those seeking high-quality sound in a smaller space, it features the same MPD III transducer and 3-inch midrange driver as the Gold 500, but with twin 6-inch bass drivers. The retail price is £4,000.00 per pair.
The Gold 100 6G is a three-way stand-mount speaker capable of deep bass, lifelike midrange, and crisp high frequencies. It supports the MPD III transducer with a 3-inch midrange driver, and a single 8-inch bass driver. The Gold 100 6G sell for £3,000 per pair.
The most compact model in the series is the Gold 50 6G. A bookshelf design priced at £1,700 per pair, it punches above its weight with the MPD III transducer and a 6-inch bass-mid driver. Integrators could shortlist this for smaller rooms, or as part of a more complex audio setup.
A new addition to the Gold Series, the On-Wall 6G is designed for flexibility in home cinema and AV setups. Its slim profile makes it ideal for use as a rear or side channel speaker, or as a wall-mounted front LCR speaker in a home cinema system. It combines the MPD III transducer with a 6-inch bass-mid driver. The Gold On-Wall 6G is priced at £1,000.00 per piece.
Finally, the Gold C250 6G is a compact three-way centre-channel speaker. It boasts twin 6-inch bass drivers, a 3-inch midrange driver, and the MPD III transducer. It retails for £1,700.
As you might expect, Monitor Audio has paid special attention to the cabinet design of the Gold Series 6G. The enclosures are constructed with thick walls and internal bracing, combined with through-bolt technology to minimise resonance and vibration.
A new top trim detail on the Gold 100 and 500 models optimises the placement of the MPD III transducer, said to enhance cabinet edge diffraction for improved imaging.
In addition to high-gloss black and satin white, the Gold Series 6G is also available in a man-made ebony veneer, offering the luxurious look of real ebony with a reduced carbon footprint.
The ST-2 speaker stand is also available, for £550 per pair.
