Paris Olympics live: Jess Fox wins gold in canoe slalom K1 final as Australia adds to medal tally

Good morning to you sleepy heads in Australia from what has been a stonker of a day in Paris.

It’s another night though, which means another big program of swimming in the Paris La Défense Arena.

There is, somewhat bizarrely, not an enormous amount of Australian interest here tonight, as odd as that might sound.

Ariarne Titmus and Mollie O’Callaghan do go in the 200m freestyle semifinal – that’s the penultimate event of the night at 9:57pm local time (5:57am for Australia’s east coast).

They are in lanes five and four respectively of the second heat.

Before that though, Max Giuliani and Thomas Neill go in the second semifinal of the men’s 200m freestyle at 8:53pm local time (4:53am AEST).

Then, of course, there’s Emma McKeon, Australia’s most medalled Australian swimmer ever, who will be hard up against it to win one in a very competitive women’s 100m butterfly final at 4:40am AEST. She is the only Aussie who can win a medal tonight.

That’s not what the home supporters are here for though.

All eyes are on Leon Marchand, the face of these Games for the French, who could win France’s first gold in the pool since 2012. His 400m IM is first cab off the rank at 4:30am AEST.
