Peterborough Jack Hunt School wins Games Gold Mark Award


Launched in 2012 by the Government and operated by the Youth Sport Trust, this accolade recognises schools’ dedication towards promoting competition within school and the community.

In the previous academic year, Jack Hunt School saw a total of 450 students emerge as contenders in inter-school competitions.

Having met  criteria areas including participation, competition, workforce, and clubs, the school’s application was triumphant.

Hayley Jeal, director of community sport curriculum area leader physical education, said: “We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport.

“This includes not only the athletes but also the young volunteers, leaders, and officials who made our competitions possible.

“The hard work and dedication of everyone at Jack Hunt School have been instrumental in achieving this recognition.”

Part of Peterborough Keys Academies Trust, the institution thanked those who contributed towards the triumph: Living Sport, Cricket East, Vivacity, The FA, Street Games, City of Peterborough Sports Club, Peterborough United and Bad Rhino.

Head teacher, Jon Hebblethwaite, said: “At Jack Hunt School we are very fortunate to have a committed group of teachers and students who contributed to achieving this award.

“Congratulations to everyone involved.”

Looking ahead, aspirations remain high as Mrs Jeal mentioned plans for continued dedication to school sports and another application for the Games Mark Award in 2025.

The school’s other triumphs for 2023/24 included becoming the Year 10 Rounders Tournament Champions and grabbing second place in both the U13 Girls Football League and the Peterborough Cricket Tournament.
