Rescuers Work to Save Trapped Russian Gold Miners

Rescuers were working to save gold miners trapped in a mine in Russia’s Amur Oblast on March 20, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations said.

The 13 miners were trapped by a rockslide at the Pioneer Mine on Monday, March 18, the Moscow Times reported.

The miners were believed to be alive despite failure to contact them, Russian media reported.

Local officials opened an investigation into a “suspected breach of safety rules,” the Moscow Times said.
