Revenue Service seizes over 2 kg of undeclared gold items on Turkey border

Customs officers of the Georgian Revenue Service seized over 2,600 kilograms of undeclared gold items on the Sarpi border crossing checkpoint with Turkey in the south-west of the country, the Service said on Friday.

The Service said its professionals had discovered the material concealed in two packages following a “detailed inspection” of a vehicle driven by a Georgian citizen, with the items valued at ₾350,723 ($128,726) found within a cabin storage area.

The body also said the case had been handed over to the Investigation Service of the country’s Finance Ministry for further action.

It also added customs officers at the checkpoint had identified 67 cases of smuggling undeclared gold items, totalling up to 10 kilograms, with an overall customs value of ₾1.4 mln ($514,256) over the past six months.
