Sharlene Mawdsley – European gold medal is ‘everything I’ve ever dreamed of’

Sharlene Mawdsley has proclaimed that Ireland’s success in the 4x400m mixed relay European Championship final last night was ‘everything I’ve ever dreamed of.’

The Tipperary woman led Ireland to victory, producing a scorching final leg to take Ireland over the line in first place with a new national record of 3.09.93 after fine work from teammates Chris O’Donnell, Rhasidat Adeleke and Thomas Barr.

All four members of Team Ireland were overcome with emotion at the end of the race, quite literally jumping for joy on the track once the magnitude of their achievement had settled in.
